Japan develops ground charging technology for electric vehicles

According to "Japan Economic News" on March 18th, Japan's East Asia Road Industry Co., Ltd., which is engaged in the road pavement business, has developed a paving technology that enables electric vehicles (EVs) to be charged during driving without using a charging cable. With the non-contact power supply technology that embeds the power supply coil in the road, the electric vehicle can be charged while driving and stopping. This technology will help solve the problem of the short distance traveled by electric vehicles, and will strive to put it into practical use as soon as possible.

The principle of non-contact power supply is to bury the power supply coil in the road, then use the magnetic force of the underground power supply coil to make the current in the vehicle's inductive coil and complete the charging.

In order to prevent the supply coils from being damaged due to heat and pressure during paving, East Asia Road Company has developed a special cement material with elasticity. The power coil can be buried in a depth of about 4 cm. Compared with the conventional method, the construction cost can be reduced to one-third, and the construction is also very simple. Therefore, it is easy to embed a power supply coil on an existing paved road. Nissan Motors provided electric vehicles for testing.
