This smart car can be deformed and driven horizontally

On May 10th, Mercedes-Benz Smart may not be called "smart." A truly smart car should be able to drive sideways, just like this deformable EO 2 smart connected car.

EO 2 is actually a research project from the German Center for Artificial Intelligence, designed for cities with road congestion and parking difficulties. Although still a prototype, EO 2 demonstrates how to bring a truly intelligent, deformable car through innovation.

This all-electric car has a white finish, a large window and a butterfly-shaped door that looks like the future, and the way it travels is also coming from the future. The four wheels of the EO 2 can be rotated 90 degrees to be perpendicular to the body. This not only allows the vehicle to circle perfectly, but also travels sideways when the wheels are fully turned.

After obtaining this ability, the car will no longer need to be parked side by side. Even if you are an old driver, in some cases the parking space looks too small to even stop a Mercedes Smart. EO 2 weighs approximately 1,653 pounds (approximately 749.8 kilograms), similar to Smart. The car can be shrunk to move like a crab or a pangolin.

The body size of the EO 2 can be reduced from 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) to 4.9 feet (1.5 meters), while the four wheels will still be on the ground.

On this basis, German researchers are planning to develop a concept called "Platoon". Based on this concept, each EO 2 car will be connected to another car to form a train. The advantage of this is that the drivers of the interconnected EO 2 Platoon will no longer have to hold the steering wheel and these electric cars will enter fully automatic mode.

However, it is unclear whether and when EO 2 can drive to the consumer market.
