Jet pump working principle and performance characteristics
Jet pumps and other types of pump is completely different, there is no moving parts pump, which relies on the pressure of the working fluid higher than the pump head to pump fluid energy. The working fluid is liquid, vapor and air, and the fluid to be delivered may be liquid or gas. According to the different working fluid, the jet pump steam jet pump and liquid jet pump two. The main difference between them is that the structure of the nozzle is somewhat different. The nozzle of the steam jet pump is diffused (called a Laval nozzle), while the nozzle of the liquid jet pump is a choke nozzle. Jet pump mainly by the nozzle, suction chamber and diffusion chamber and other components. Working fluid under pressure through the tube into the nozzle, and at a high speed from the nozzle outlet. Due to the extremely high velocity of the working fluid being ejected, the liquid (or gas) in the vicinity of the nozzle is taken away. At this point, a vacuum is created at the rear suction chamber at the exit of the nozzle so that the suction chamber can suck in fluid from the suction tube and join together with the working fluid to pass through the diffusion tube into the discharge tube. If the working fluid is continuously sprayed, liquid (or gas) can be continuously delivered. Jet pumps can be used to generate vacuum or pressure; industrial use of steam or gas jet to pump corrosive gases; high pressure water jet to pump sewage or suspension. Jet pump main drawback is the low efficiency, usually 15% to 30%, and the need for high-pressure fluid working medium. However, it has no moving parts, simple structure, reliable operation and self-priming capability. Therefore, it is still being applied in the chemical industry, especially in applications where motive fluid is used.
