India's iron ore export volume dropped sharply in November

According to data from the Indian Port Association, the export volume of iron ore from the main port controlled by the central government of India in November was nearly 4.8 million tons, down 35.4% year-on-year and down 19.6% from the previous month. Affected by iron ore transportation in Odisha State (formerly Orissa), the iron ore exports of Port of Baladib and neighboring Visa Padnam South of Andhra Pradesh have fallen sharply year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter. The iron ore exports of the ElBaradei Port decreased by 88.4% year-on-year to 1.486 million tons, down 74.1% from the previous month. The iron ore exports of the Visapadang Port decreased by 35.7% year-on-year to 933,000 tons, down 47.1% from the previous month. Most of the southern ports continue to be affected by the restricted exports of Karnataka. In addition, the Chennai Port of Tamil Nadu was ordered to stop exporting iron ore from October 1 due to environmental pollution in the port area. In April-November 2011, Indian iron ore exports fell 15.9% year-on-year to 42.356 million tons. Central-controlled port iron ore exports account for 80%-90% of India's total exports.
