High-altitude “wind-breaking” power generation for aerial wind turbines

Aerial Wind Turbine High-altitude Wind Power Generation

According to the British “Daily Mail” reported on March 30th, Altairos Wind Energy, a subsidiary of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has recently successfully developed an aerial wind turbine (AWT) that can utilize high-altitude wind power.

The AWT is actually a combination of a windmill and an airship. It has a helium-filled enclosure that can float in the air to collect wind power and then return it through the cable to the ground. Altaeros recently conducted a test in Maine. The AWT rose to a height of 107 meters and successfully landed after collecting twice the amount of electricity from a conventional wind tower.
