Corn lodging

In response to the damage caused by the typhoon "Blavan" to the crops in our province, especially the ups and downs of corn suffering from windstorms, the reporter interviewed Wang Lichun, the director of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Environment of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Wang Lichun suggested that farmers should adopt the following measures to cope with corn lodging and strive to minimize losses.

Immediately organize the manpower to artificially raise the fallen corn. Corn plants that are not able to support stems and can not be harvested should be harvested in time to prevent the temperature from rising and causing the ear to rot. Straw should be cut off as early as possible to increase the ventilation and light transmission capacity of the field. The cut straw can be used as silage to feed livestock and poultry; if conditions permit, the surrounding silage manufacturers can be contacted to treat the corn stover as silage to reduce the damage.

For half-falling corn plants, light can not move, use the crop's own ability to restore growth, so as not to damage the root system, causing repeated damage; slightly heavy to be artificially raised within 3 days, starting from the upwind at the time of lodging, every 2 ridges For a group, tie 3 to 4 corns (6 to 8 plants in two ridges) with straw or rope, taking care not to damage the functional leaves. After 3 days, cut the ropes to make the corn grow naturally. There is basically no effect on the later grouting and yield of corn. It should be noted that it must be completed within 3 days after lodging. If the time is too long, the stems and roots will be easily broken, and the part above the ear position will stand up. At this time, the effect of the lifting is very poor, even It is better not to help.

For fully lodging corn plants, under the premise of ensuring that the stems and roots are not damaged, the wooden ears are supported below the ear position, so that the ears of corn are about 30 cm away from the ground to prevent rodents and prevent mildew. While lifting and supporting the plants, the bottom leaves can be combined to enhance ventilation and light transmission; the quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer can be applied to increase nutrition and promote maturity.
