Battery life has always been a major obstacle to the development of electric vehicles. In Ningbo, Zhejiang, the “curse of life” is being broken, and new research techniques are expected to solve the “range anxiety” of electric vehicles.

The reporter learned from the Ningbo Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences that the research team recently used graphene to develop a kilowatt-class aluminum air battery, which has an energy density that is more than four times that of current commercial lithium-ion batteries, and that one kilogram of aluminum allows electric vehicles to run 60 Kilometers, which doubles electric vehicle life, has an attractive market prospect for electric vehicle rangers.

It is reported that the battery system has an energy density of 510Wh/kg, capacity of 20kWh, and output power of 1000W. Through actual demonstrations, the system can simultaneously supply power to a TV set, a computer, an electric fan, and 10 60W lighting bulbs, preliminarily verifying the power generation capability of the aluminum air battery system.

Liu Zhaoping, director of the Key Laboratory of Graphene Application Research in Zhejiang Province, introduced that if the battery is used in a new energy vehicle, the body can be light and the mileage can be greatly improved; if used on a mobile phone charging treasure, the output power can be greatly improved. In addition, the traditional communication base station lead-acid battery has been replaced once every 3-4 years, while the aluminum air battery developed by Ningbo Materials has been stored for about 15 years, and the battery life is much longer.

“It is precisely with the advantages of high energy density, low cost, abundant resources, green pollution-free, and long discharge life. Aluminum air batteries have an attractive market prospect for standby power supply of communication base stations and application of electric vehicle range extenders.” said Liu Zhaoping. .

In recent years, the research of metal air batteries in the world has not stopped, but its industrial development still faces many technical bottlenecks, for example, the electrode power density needs to be improved, it is difficult to meet the high power output and anode utilization is not high.

Graphene, the “industrial magic”, made a new breakthrough in this research. Xue Yejian, senior engineer at the Power Lithium Battery Engineering Laboratory of the Ningbo Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences, told reporters that their use of graphene composite manganese-based oxide catalysts and new graphene-based high-efficiency air cathodes have increased the power density of single cells by 25%, which has greatly increased the metal Air battery comprehensive performance.

It is reported that the research team is actively designing and developing a 5kW class high-power aluminum air battery system for communication base station backup power supply and electric vehicle range extender. In addition, Ningbo Institute of Materials has invested 3 million yuan to purchase the non-standard production line - pilot test line, is expected to be completed by the end of August. This production line can annually produce 35,000 metal-air battery cathodes. The "super battery" can be put into mass production in the future. (Reporter Li Jiayu)

Floor Drain

A floor drain is a plumbing fixture that is installed in the floor of a structure, mainly designed to remove any standing water near it. They are usually round, but can also be square or rectangular. They usually range from 2 to 12 inches (5.1 to 30.5 cm); most are 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. They have gratings that are made of metal or plastic. The floor around the drain is also sloped to allow the water to flow to the drain. Many residential basements have one or more floor drains, usually near a water heater or washer/dryer. Floor drains can also be found in commercial basements, restrooms, kitchens, refrigerator areas, locker/shower rooms, laundry facilities, and near swimming pools, among other places.
