According to the statistics released by Guangzhou Customs on the 26th, from January to July 2010, 19.95 million tons of coal were imported through the port of Guangdong, an increase of 17% over the same period of last year; the average import price was US$78.6 per ton, an increase of 30.3%. . Among them, 14.06 million tons of coal were imported from ASEAN, accounting for 83% of the total coal imports from Guangdong ports during the same period.

According to the analysis of the customs, there are two main reasons for the rise in volume and price of imported coal in Guangdong. First, the upcoming Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou at the end of this year. In addition, Guangdong’s urbanization development has entered a period of rapid development, which has driven the industry’s improvement in various industries, including the rebound of the steel market, thus increasing Guangdong’s demand for coal. . At the same time, the high temperature weather in the summer has come, and the power load has ushered in a new peak. The electricity consumption in the southern cities is tense, and the rigid demand for electricity enterprises in Guangdong is strong, supporting the formation of coal prices. Second, the domestic and international spreads are the main driving force for the increase in imports. Although the price of domestic coal fell slightly under the influence of state regulation, it was still slightly higher than the price of imported coal.

The main sources of imported coal in Guangdong are ASEAN and Australia. From January to July, Guangdong imported 14.06 million tons of coal from ASEAN, an increase of 47.4%, which accounted for 83% of the total coal imports from Guangdong ports at the same period. Among them, 9.405 million tons were imported from Indonesia, a surge of 3.2 times; 4.611 million tons were imported from Vietnam, a decrease of 37%. During the same period, imports from Australia reached 1.677 million tons, a decrease of 57%, accounting for 9.9% of the coal imports from Guangdong ports at the same period.
