Analysis of the current status of magnesium industry in China

China's magnesium industry has great development prospects as a young and emerging industry, but the development of magnesium industry in China in the first five years is very unstable! These are mainly reflected in the price, consumption, output and other aspects!

Some analysts briefly reviewed the situation of magnesium industry in China and the world in 2009 at the 7th International Magnesium Industry Conference. He summed up the magnesium industry in four sentences: The output of magnesium decreased by 24%. The consumption increased by 8.86%. The price was basically stable within a reasonable range; the decline in exports was the main reason why the industry was in trouble.

In the past five years, magnesium consumption, production capacity, production, and prices have undergone major changes, and the market has experienced great fluctuations. As a young emerging industry, China's magnesium industry has never experienced such rapid growth and rapid recession. We believe that this is the result of a combination of factors and a microcosm of the Chinese economy and even the world economy. It is a development process that is compatible with China's economic development stage and industrial structure. The fluctuations experienced by the magnesium industry and the challenges faced by them are the most important factors in the policy and external economic environment. Of course, the imperfections of its own development model also affect the stability of its development.

Yield

According to the survey and analysis, it is estimated that the actual output of raw magnesium in China was about 430,000 tons in 2009, a year-on-year decrease of 24% compared with 2008, and a decrease of 35% compared with the highest value in 2007. From 2000 to 2007, China's primary magnesium production increased by 238%, with an average annual growth rate of 19%.

Export amount

In 2009, China exported a total of about 233,200 tons of magnesium ingot and magnesium-related products, a decrease of about 162,900 tons compared with 2008, a decrease of 40%. Among them, exports of magnesium ingots were approximately 117,400 tons, a year-on-year decrease of approximately 79,600 tons, a decrease of approximately 40.4%.

consumption

According to the China Magnesium Association, China's magnesium consumption was 172,200 tons in 2009, an increase of 8.86% year-on-year.

It is understood that the consumption of raw magnesium in China reached the highest in 2007, which was 263,000 tons, a net increase of 106,500 tons from 2006, an increase of 68.05%. The average annual growth rate in 2001-2007 was 39.6%. In particular, China's magnesium consumption rose to a new level in 2006-2007, with consumption exceeding 200,000 tons for the first time, making it the fastest growing metal in China. In 2007, China has surpassed the United States as the world's largest magnesium consumer. This is an important event for the global magnesium industry. Due to the high price of magnesium and the financial crisis, the magnesium consumption in 2008 was 158,000 tons, which was a 40% drop from the previous year. In response to the Chinese government’s response to the financial crisis and the expansion of domestic demand policies, China’s domestic magnesium consumption has resumed growth in 2009.
