The red mud brick making technology developed by Nanjing Qinzhuan Company was approved on the 12th by the scientific and technological achievements organized by the Nanjing Science and Technology Bureau.
The red mud is a solid powdery waste discharged during the production process of alumina smelting. It contains an iron oxide component and is named after the appearance color is similar to that of the red mud. It is estimated that China's current five major alumina plants annually discharge 5 million tons of red mud, accumulates a total of 41 million tons of red mud, and produces approximately 1 to 1.7 tons of red mud per ton of alumina produced. The red mud is still treated by the dam's wet method, which makes it easy to infiltrate a large amount of spent alkali liquor into the nearby farmland, resulting in alkalization and swamping of the soil and contaminating groundwater sources on the surface. Currently there is no effective solution.
The red clay brickmaking technology uses the red mud tailings as the main raw material, and is mixed with fly ash and other industrial wastes. Among them, the red mud content in the brick raw materials exceeds 30%; the mixed powder raw materials are pressed under a certain high pressure. The brick embryos are chemically reacted in high-pressure steam to form red mud bricks. The original need to spend huge amounts of money to control the emissions of red mud tailings waste, through this technology will be transformed into useful new building materials; the United States and Russia and other countries in China is seeking waste cooperation projects, the product is expected to enter the international market.
