New open day technology increases photoelectric conversion rate to around 30%

According to local media reports on the 19th, Japanese researchers have developed a new technology that can increase the photoelectric conversion rate of solar panels to about 30%.

Sunlight is composed of light of various wavelengths. At present, solar panels on the market mainly use silicon material, which mainly absorbs and converts visible light. It does not work for near-ultraviolet light, which accounts for about one third of sunlight, and has a short wavelength. Photoelectric conversion The rate is about 20%.

According to reports, the research team led by Prof. Mitsuo Hiroshi of Hokkaido University in Japan used inexpensive aluminum as the base material to densely dispose aluminum fine particles with a diameter of only one thousandth of the diameter of the hair filament on the oxide semiconductor substrate. Experiments have shown that solar panels using this aluminum fine-grained structure can efficiently absorb and convert near-ultraviolet light, and can improve the photoelectric conversion rate of solar panels to 30%.

Hokkaido University said that the research team had previously successfully developed solar panels using gold fine particles to capture near-ultraviolet light, but it is expensive and difficult to commercialize. The use of aluminum as the base material of the battery board, has the advantages of low cost, easy to damage and so on. Researchers will further study the shape and arrangement of aluminum fine particles and continue to increase the photoelectric conversion rate to develop efficient, low-cost solar panels.
