Experiments and points for evaluating bearing performance under lubrication conditions with impurity contamination

Through this experimental experiment and analytical practice, the following conclusions and observations can be drawn:

(1) For heavily polluted systems, a single lubricant analysis method cannot be a reliable method to link bearing damage to the final field use.

(2) Bearing fatigue life test to assess the sensitivity of impurity damage can be used as a useful means to distinguish the performance levels of different products.

(3) The standardized impurity life test shows that the conventional and anti-impurity bearings from different manufacturers show great differences in grades. The above mentioned differences should be considered when comparing impurity tolerances in relative product systems and when applying performance prediction tools.

(4) Direct measurement methods for damage contained in impurity imprint analysis are expected to provide higher accuracy in quantitative analysis of damage differences than other methods including lubrication contamination analysis.

(5) Impurity imprint analysis provides a means for comparing the successful and unsuccessful performance of equipment in a polluted environment. The new life prediction model provides a practical link between actual impurity indentation and subsequent fatigue damage.
