Dr. Bernadette Dunham of the FDA's Veterinary Center stated: "The FDA has thoroughly analyzed and evaluated all the data and information submitted by AquaBounty Technologies and decided to pass it." The FDA regulated that this genetically modified catfish can only be found in Canada and Panama. They are kept in land tanks and are not allowed to breed and raise in the United States. Dr. Ron Stotish, president of AquaBounty Technologies, said that this eel will revolutionize the environment and bring healthy and nutritious food to consumers without damaging the ocean and other habitats. Transgenic carp seedlings grow faster than normal salmon, so it is feasible to raise them in water tanks in urban areas. Lisa Archer, head of the Earth's Friends Food and Technology Project, said that despite the irresponsible approval of the first GM animal for human consumption, it is clear that there is no place for the sale of genetically modified salmon on the US market.
