Toshiba Machinery has developed a vertical 5-axis control machining center (MC) "UVM-700E (5AD)" that can process small-sized molds with high precision, and was held at the Tokyo Ariake International Convention and Exhibition Center from November 17th to 22nd. The 28th Japan International Machine Tool Show (JIMTOF2016) was exhibited (Fig. 1). By improving the machining accuracy, a mold with a smooth surface can be machined. Therefore, the polishing process as a post process can be omitted, or the polishing operation can be reduced.

The main shaft of the machining center uses an aerostatic bearing to reduce vibration and thermal displacement. It has less vibration than ball bearings and also reduces heat generation. In addition, in order to improve the positioning accuracy, a linear motor is also used as a driving source for the X, Y, and Z axes. The minimum feed is controlled to 10 nm by gain adjustment. In addition, in order to improve the straightness of the spindle movement, Toshiba Machinery also wears the purchased linear motion guide and then inserts it into the machine tool. In addition, in order to achieve precision cutting, the maximum spindle speed has been increased to 60,000 rpm.
Through the above improvements, the machining accuracy is improved, and a 20 nm precision surface roughness (arithmetic mean roughness, Ra) is achieved. For automotive optical components, molds such as light guides and reflectors can be precisely cut, eliminating the need for a grinding process (Figure 2).
The price is 75 million yen (excluding tax). (Reporter: Kinoka Yu)

Threaded Rod

From the extrusion process, it can be seen that the Screw operates under high temperature, certain corrosion, strong wear, and high torque. Therefore, the screw must:
1) High temperature resistance, without deformation at high temperatures; 2) Wear resistance and long service life; 3) Corrosion resistance, materials with corrosiveness; 4) High strength, capable of withstanding high torque and high rotational speed; 5) Having good cutting performance; 6) After heat treatment, the residual stress is small, and the thermal deformation is small.
