Research progress on key technologies for seawater extraction of uranium from Shanghai Yingwu Institute

Uranium in seawater is an important unconventional uranium resource, and its reserves are about 4.5 billion tons, equivalent to one thousand times the reserves of land uranium mines. If it can be extracted economically and effectively, it will be the stable development of China ’s nuclear power industry and nuclear power. Important supplement and guarantee. Recently, researchers from the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have made new progress in the field of uranium extraction from seawater. The relevant results were published in the Journal of Energy & Environmental Science (DOI: 10.1039 / C9EE00626E).

This research work successfully obtained a amidoxime-based polymer fiber adsorbent material with high specific surface area and multi-stage pore structure through the structural design of the material. The study found that this regular multi-level pore structure made the material's adsorption capacity in real seawater exceed the single-digit order for the first time, and the structural effect subverted the traditional amidoxime-based materials with low uranium and vanadium selectivity. Due to the characteristics of the polymer skeleton, the mechanical strength is high, and the structure and chemical stability are strong. The material can be reused at least 10 times or more, which has met the requirements of the adsorbent material for the industrialization of seawater uranium extraction. This work provides new ideas for the study of seawater extraction of uranium, and opens up new methods for extracting nuclear fuel from the ocean.
