MediaTek Releases Wearable Product Development Platform

At the Taipei Computer Show held today, MediaTek released LinkIt, a wearable product development platform, to provide a complete solution for wearable developers. In April of this year, MediaTek showed its first wearable chip Aster, which is 55 mm in size and integrates functions such as microprocessor and Bluetooth.

The LinkIt platform released today will be based on the Aster chip and provide a complete wearable product reference design. This platform includes not only a hardware reference design for computing and communication networking functions, but also a lightweight wearable operating system and interfaces to various network services. Products that use the LinkIt development platform are compatible with both iOS and Android devices when networking.

This reference design simplifies the product development process, allowing wearable developers to focus more on product appearance, innovative features, and related services.

Talking about the development platform strategy, MediaTek said that this is in line with its practice in the mobile phone market. Xu Jinquan, general manager of MediaTek's new business development department, said: "In the mobile phone market, MediaTek's turnkey solution was very successful. But when it entered the wearable market, new devices appeared every day, and it was impossible to provide a comprehensive service like the mobile phone market. The key scheme. So, a reference design like LinkIt that integrates core functions appears."

In addition, MediaTek will launch its developer community MediateckLabs, and the LinkIt platform released today will be part of this development community. This community will open in the third quarter of this year.
