The use of recycled materials not only saves resources, but also protects the environment to a certain extent. Recycled plastics are often subjected to multiple passes, which inevitably affects the structure and performance of the recycled material. In order to get a good recycled material, we need to understand the five methods of identifying recycled materials. aTR–FTIR analysis The characteristic peaks of LDPE after initial processing are not significantly different from the new materials, and the structures of PP, PS and PC are more complicated. It is not easy to observe the change of the characteristic peaks of the groups by aTR–FTIR after multiple processing. Therefore, the use of aTR-FTIR method to identify the limitations of plastic recycled materials, must be combined with other instruments to obtain effective identification results. MFR analysis During the multiple processing, the LDPE resin mainly undergoes cross-linking or chain branching reaction. Therefore, its MFR gradually decreases with the increase of the number of processing, and the processing fluidity deteriorates. Similar HDPE also increases the MFR of the material as the number of processing increases. The MFR of PP, PS and PC increased significantly with the increase of the number of processing. GPC analysis The GPC method has a narrow scope of application and can only identify PS and PC recycled materials with multiple processing histories. Because LDPE and PP have good chemical stability and are insoluble in common organic solvents at normal temperature, their molecular weight cannot be measured at room temperature by GPC. TG analysis The TG curves of LDPE, PP and PS new materials and recycled materials basically overlap, while the TG curve of PC recycled materials is more distinct from the new materials. Taken together, the TG analysis method is only applicable to the identification of PC recycled materials. Tensile strength test The tensile strength of LDPE increases with the increase of the number of processing, while the tensile strength of PP, PS and PC recycled materials decreases compared with the new material. Among them, the PC recycled material after 4 times of processing is prone to runny in the subsequent extrusion process, and the injection molded sample is broken, so the tensile strength of the PC recycled material after 5 times of processing cannot be tested.
